Normal life is busy, often stressful and sometimes exhausting but returning to normal life after the last couple of years has left many of us feeling a little off and not ourselves.
Minding our mental health is so important and there are simple adjustments that you can make to your life that may help you feel more like yourself again.
Getting Enough Sleep
This is a key step. Lots of us stay up too late bingeing Netflix, scrolling on our phones or gaming. Not getting enough sleep affects mood, cognitive function and energy levels. Try to cut out screen time in the hour before sleep, make sure your bed is comfortable and your room is dark. Don’t drink caffeine in the afternoon and limit the number of days you drink alcohol.
Keep in Touch
Having a laugh and a chat with your family and friends can make everything seem better. When you’re busy at work and with other commitments it can be easy to cancel plans or let a lot of time go by between visits but a couple of hours with loved ones can be a real tonic.
Watch What You Eat
Highly processed foods and too much sugar and alcohol can leave you feeling sluggish and unhealthy. It’s easy to grab fast food when you’re tired or feeling down but it won’t help you feel any better. Try to increase the amount of whole foods, fruit and vegetables you consume to give you a boost from the inside out.
Supplement Your Diet
We can’t get everything we need from food alone so choose a smart supplement like Cleanmarine For Women (now known as Cleanmarine PeriodPlan). It contains vitamin B1, B2 and B6 which work to support normal energy yielding metabolism while vitamin B2 and B6 contribute to reducing tiredness and fatigue.
Get Out and About
When making plans try to mix it up a bit and get out into the air. A beach run, mountain hike or park picnic are all great opportunities to catch up with friends, get fresh air and some natural vitamin D. Exercise helps your body to release endorphins, which are great for your mood.
Just Say No
As our diaries are filling up again there can be pressure to go out and do everything but remember that prioritising rest and restoration is ok. Give yourself a certain amount of time in a week where you’re happy to make plans and say no the rest of the time. Everyone will understand.
While it’s normal to go through occasional ups and downs with your mood, if your mood is impacting your life consult with your healthcare professional who will be able to offer you some additional support.
