Exam Stress – How to support students

A little practical knowledge can go a long way to help you to support your loved ones during the stress of their exams.

The very mention of exams can make even the calmest person feel stressed, we’ve all had those flashback exam dreams! Only time teaches us exam results do not define us, and that there’s so much more to life. But for those going through it, they can benefit from parental support to help them manage exam stress, stay positive, control what they can control and work to the best of their ability.

Some Basic Tips Coming Up to Exam Time:
1. A Quiet Place to Study
Help your student carve out a quiet area of the home to study. The less distractions, the better it’ll be for their concentration levels.

2. A Balanced Diet
Good nutrition is essential at any time of year, but especially during exam time. Juggling your own life on top of supporting a teen in full exam mode can be hard. Batch cook some healthy meals and stock up on nutritious snacks. Having some of the student’s favourite dinner to hand is important too. It’s so important to get enough B vitamins in foods like broccoli, kale and spinach. Getting their five-a-day is even more important as exam day approaches. This is when their nutritional and energy needs are at their highest.

3. Omega 3 is Essential to Fuel a Hard-working Brain
Keep their brain and vision in tip top shape by making sure to top up your good fats daily. Consider introducing your student to Cleanmarine® Krill Oil High Strength. It contains 590mg of concentrated, high strength Omega 3 Krill Oil plus 10μg of vitamin D3, 200% of your RDI. DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and vision, the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250mg. Also eating 2-3 portions of oily fish a week provides more essential fats for your body. Examples include salmon, mackerel, and herring. Easy to cook in steam parcels in the oven with garlic, lemon, and oil.

4. Help Them Get a Good Night’s Sleep
When your mind is buzzing with exam questions, quotes and scientific theories, having something to help you switch off, relax and support deep sleep can be very helpful. Naturalife Stressveda™ is a unique blend of organic KSM-66® ashwagandha root, and vitamins A, C, D, E and K. Plus plant-sourced B vitamins including vitamin B5 for normal mental performance, vitamin B6 for normal functioning of the nervous system and vitamin B1 for normal psychological function.

5. Encourage Them to Exercise
Even a 20-minute walk will help to relax and destress the mind, this will also help oxygenate the entire body.

6. Don’t Forget to Celebrate
When the exams are over, go out and celebrate together.
