Bridging the Gap: Integrating Menstrual Health and Exercise Science

Bridging the Gap: Integrating Menstrual Health and Exercise Science

We hear from Abbie Condon a recent graduate of the Menstrual Coach Academy, and Munster Technological University (BSc in Health, Sport and Exercise Science with Massage Therapy) about her journey with endometriosis and health education below. Cleanmarine sponsored Abbie’s training with the Menstrual Coach Academy as part of their ongoing women’s health education program.

Two years ago, I was diagnosed with endometriosis, a condition that significantly affects both physical and mental wellbeing. As a health and exercise science student, the goal is to promote healthy living. Yet living with chronic pain often left me feeling like an imposter in my own body. The lack of clear answers and support available to many women with endometriosis motivated me to seek a deeper understanding of menstrual health and how it could support both personal wellbeing and future professional practice.

During my search for answers prior to diagnosis, I discovered a Menstrual Health Coach Lisa de Jong online. It provided a safe and informative space to learn about women’s health and introduced me to perspectives on the nervous system and menstrual health that were not part of my formal education.

I also gained a deeper appreciation for the role the nervous system regulation play in supporting menstrual health. Understanding how factors such as nutrition, stress management, movement, and daily habits influence the nervous system, and the menstrual cycle has been invaluable, both for managing my own symptoms and for informing how I hope to support others in the future.

Nutrition is one of the most important lifestyle factors that needs to be supported when caring for our menstrual health. High quality foods and supplementation is essential for getting all the required vitamins and minerals needed to support our gut and immune system. Cleanmarine For Women provides exactly what is needed to support hormonal balance for women who need a little extra support with their diet & nutrition.

Integrating menstrual health awareness into exercise and performance for women and young girls is essential for fostering supportive sporting and exercise communities. Menstrual health education and support about cycles, nutrition and lifestyle will change the game for women in sport hopefully leading to increased retention and adherence in sport and exercise for all women. This is especially important, where menstrual health is often overlooked despite its impact on performance, recovery, and confidence. By promoting a holistic approach, including nutrition, lifestyle, movement, and nervous system health. Through my work I hope to help young women feel more empowered and supported in both sport and everyday life.
